Household Hazardous Waste Events

Waste Connections of Tennessee encourages residential customers located in the five counties listed below, to plan to bring their Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) to these 2018 events.

  • Jefferson County
  • Loudon County
  • Sevier

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation explains who may participate and where the upcoming events will occur.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

  • Any Tennessee resident can participate in the Mobile Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Service.
  • Only households may use the service to dispose of hazardous wastes.
  • No commercial, institutional, or agri-business waste will be accepted.

  • fertilizers

  • wood preservatives

Miscellaneous

  • aerosols / compressed gas
  • compact fluorescent bulbs
  • fluorescent tubes
  • medicines / drugs
  • mercury thermostats and thermometers
  • needles and sharps (in a puncture-proof container)
  • photo processing chemicals
  • pool chemicals

Unacceptable HHW Items

Medical / Biological

  • any waste from a doctor's office, clinic, or veterinarian's office
  • dead animals
  • infectious wastes

Explosives / Ammunition

  • ammunition
  • fireworks
  • gun powder
  • military ordnance

Radioactives

  • radium paint
  • smoke detectors

Business / Institutional Waste

  • no agribusiness
  • no businesses, large or small
  • no colleges or universities
  • no home improvement or painting contractors
  • no hospitals
  • no schools

Miscellaneous

  • alkaline batteries - may be thrown away in the trash
  • automotive gas tanks
  • electronics – contact your local Solid Waste Department for guidance
  • empty containers of any kind
