 Solid
waste transfer station operations represent
an efficient, environmentally friendly
methodology to receive, process, compact and
transfer solid waste to larger vehicles for
transport via truck, rail or barge to
Company owned/or operated landfills, as well
as third party landfills. The company has an
active program to acquire, develop, own and
operate transfer stations in markets
proximate to its operations. Transfer
stations benefit the Company and its
customers by: (i) concentrating the waste
stream from a wider area, which increases
the volume of disposal at Company owned and
operated landfills and gives the Company
greater leverage in negotiating for more
favorable disposal rates at other landfills,
(ii) improving the utilization of collection
personnel and equipment, and (iii) building
relationships with municipalities and
private operators that deliver waste, which
can lead to additional growth opportunities.
